The Effect of Social Inequality on Relationship

People live in the society that distinguishes them regarding different bases leading to the concept of social inequality. Social inequality refers to the stratification of individuals based on their ethnicity, race, gender, age, sexuality, and class. In reality, people continue to experience the effects of social inequality in their lives. Therefore, intimate relationships between partners and the relationships between parents and children explain some of the impacts of social inequality which makes them the central focus of this discussion.

Social inequality has affected the intimate relationship between partners in many ways. Gender disparity has had various effects on the relationship among partners in the society. It proves the basis of male chauvinism that explains the domestic violence and unaccountability among men. Many men view themselves as those who possess the full control with the reverse being unacceptable. Consequently, they have male partners tend to gain more power and control in their intimate relationships as opposed to their female counterparts. The next social inequality influencing the intimate relationship is the class difference. When people of different classes engage in an intimate relationship, the ones from lower social classes tend to suffer the most. For instance, regardless of their gender, people of high class do command high respect and control in their relationships. Many individuals attribute such behaviors to their possession of wealth as opposed to their counterparts.

Finally, race and ethnicity seriously affect the intimate relationships between partners. People of different races or ethnic background find it difficult to compromise their norms when they marry. The cultural differences between these partners prove the source of the problem since none is ready for assimilation. In other instances, people consider their culture superior hence demanding their partners to adopt them. Racially, some communities have rejected interracial relationships, or some view their partners as hailing from inferior races. Consequently, these intimate relationships have broken, or the members live in denial which is detrimental to their social lives.

Another dimension of the impacts of social inequality considers the relationship between parents and children. In many cases, the effect may not be conspicuous between females and their children but eminent among men. The gender difference has little influence in relationship between parents and their children depending on the beliefs of certain societies. In some instances, men tend to identify with male children while leaving their female ones to their mothers. However, women tend to have similar attachments to their children following their close relationship during breastfeeding. The class defines a larger dimension which could include styles of dressing and other social aspects. Apparently, many parents have collided with their children regarding their manner of dressing and social events they are likely to attend. Children have different tastes when it comes to dressing and social events which may oppose what their parents expect of them. Consequently, this differences in social classes have compromised the relationship between parents and their children. Finally, race and ethnicity may not have many effects on parents and their children since they collectively own them. However, in some instances, some parents have displayed elements of discrimination concerning their children being of different colors. Moreover, the magnitude of such influence depends on the way the society views people of different races.

Overall, social inequality significantly influences the society. Apparently, its influence regarding intimate relationships and parent-child relationships remain visible among people. Factors that instigate these effects include race, ethnicity, gender, and class among others. Therefore, identifying the impacts of social inequality as a result of gender, class, and racial difference remains vital.
